days 31-32. good evening, vietnam!
{first cyclo ride; view from our balcony; chicken satay; abandoned lunch plates; harbor; uncle ho}
our first stop in vietnam is chau doc, a little town close to the cambodian border. there isn’t too much to see here, but we’ve ventured out for a few days to explore the town and get used to vietnam. there are actually quite a few differences from cambodia, odd being that...

day 28. on the road again.
it’s back to phnom penh one more time for a few last visits and errands. we picked up souvenirs to send back home; i got my clothes from monica (and i LOVE them!); we hung out with the guerra sisters as they took on cambodia together; and we said good bye to all the friends we’ve met along the way. phnom penh really started to feel like home, and i know i will miss it. i cannot...

day 27. tour d'angkor
matt had been dreaming of renting bicycles since our first taste of angkor, so today i willingly obliged. we saw the parts of angkor thom that we skipped on day 1: bauphon, terrace of the elephants, and terrace of the leper king. then we pedaled up to preah khan, a temple heavily referenced in our boot legged guide books. after devouring our packed lunches (no tourist prices for us...

days 23-24. angkor what?
once again, we packed up and left phnom penh by bus in the early morning. this time we were heading to siem riep, home of the awesome angkor ruins. on our first day at the temples we saw: prasat kravan, banteay sdei and sra srang, ta prohm, ta keo, thommamon, the victory gate, bayon, and phnom bakheng. phew! it was ridiculous, overwhelming, stunning, mind-blowing, and fun. we tended to...

days 25-26. lingamania and a siesta.
we were up and at ‘em early today to see the sunrise at angkor wat. we stumbled downstairs at 4:30 a.m. only to find the lobby full of snoring guesthouse employees draped over chairs, couches, and cots. we felt badly about waking anyone up (furthermore, faces were hidden by draped forearms or mosquito nets so who we would wake up was a crap shoot anyway), so we were relieved...

days 21-22. 36 hours in phnom penh.
we dragged ourselves away from beach paradise and went back to phnom penh so we could keep on schedule and spend a few days in siem riep before maggie gets here and our visas expire. we checked back into our old guesthouse (called OK, and highly recommended) and called fresh-on-vacation katherine. we joined her and her crew for dinner at a russian place and ate our first hearty, cheese-filled...

days 18-21. fear the beard at otres beach.
we spent 3 nights on the beach and did what anyone would do: nothing! we slept, ate, lounged in the shade, swam. and repeat. it was honestly so amazing. the family that owned our bungalow guesthouse were sweet as could be and provided us with fresh fruit and smiles daily.
oh yeah, and also, um THE GIANTS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!! no big deal or anything…psych! HUGE deal!!! i am so proud...

days 15-18. kampot.
we left the sleepy town of kep for the adventures of kampot a few miles down the road. we rented motos (!) on our first day and went on a jaunt to the river where the locals go for a swim. the second day rained, though it didn’t stop either of us from enjoying ourselves with books and the internet. our third and final day was spent on a jungle-trek/flat-bed truck-ride up to the...
